The long void seemed to melt astoundingly as India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar produced a spellbinding performance to win the Fiji International. His self-determination, grit and class turned out to be an irresistible potion for his opponent Anthony Qauyle as Bhullar cruised his way to the incredible victory. Now, he is the first Indian to win straight nine Asian Tour titles.

The talented Golfer scored the biggest victory of his career, edging out Anthony Quayle in a sensational final round shootout at the Natadola Bay Golf Course. In the end, it took an eagle on the 71st hole to secure a hard-fought one-shot victory, Bhullar finishing at 14-under 274.

In an exclusive and brief interaction with 4moles.com, he quipped, “I knew that my game would be coming back to me very soon. I always wear that ‘never-give-up’ attitude on my sleeves, no matter what’s the odds are.”

He attributes his success and meteoric rise in world rankings from 163 to 114 to a never-give-up up till the end attitude and says he's more motivated to work harder and achieve success on the international Golf landscape. Bhullar also attributes his success to his coach Noah Montgomery.

On silencing the critics

By posting four top-10s including two runner-up finishes at the Maekyung Open and Queen’s Cup in Korea and Thailand respectively, Bhullar has effectively silenced the critics who doubted on his ability to prosper consistently.

“I understand Golf is all about consistency and I will put in my best to work towards the same. It’s all about taking your game to the next level,” shares Bhullar.

What budding Golfers need to know

At a time when Junior Golfers too are making strides at the global level, what’s his advice for them? “I would simply say never give up on your dreams. Keep going and keep standing strong on your feet. Arm yourselves with loads of self-motivation, discipline and hard work as these attributes can help you achieve better in life as an athlete,” says Bhullar with a smile.

On PGTI events eligible for World Ranking Points

Recently, Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) got a shot in the arm after an announcement that PGTI events will be eligible for official world ranking points. The decision was ratified by the Official World Golf Ranking board, which met during the Open Championship.

Ask Bhullar on what does it mean for Indian Golf and he says, “I think it’s great news for Indian Golf. Now PGTI, that has been excellent in raising new talents, can attract international players. We will definitely see the prize money going up because of this factor. More money and much harder competition, that’s what we need right now.”

Clearly, the win is a tribute to Bhullar’s resilience and indomitable willpower.
