Film idols are Golf Foundation Brand Ambassadors

May 3rd 2014, Gurgaon, India: Film stars Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff became the Brand Ambassadors for Golf Foundation on a day when the inaugural Yes Bank Golf Foundation elicited excellent response from the golf community, which turned up in good numbers at both the tournament at the ITC Classic Golf Resort and in the evening at the Gala dinner at Le Meridien on Saturday.

Giving the Foundation a huge fillip, Kapoor also announced that he would get the support of superstar Aamir Khan for the organisation, which has been helping young and underprivileged golfers to realize their talent and attain new goals.

Kapoor and Shroff were the chief guests and also gracing the occasion was Chief Patron of Golf Foundation, Air Marshal Arjun Singh.

Anil Kapoor, who has been on the screen for nearly 35 years, is one of most recognized actors from India on the global scene and he was part of the Academy Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire and for the last eight years has been part of the Action series ‘24’, which has received rave reviews in American media.

Jackie Shroff has acted in more than 150 films in nine languages and has been part of the film industry for 30 years.

Kapoor and Shroff were the Chief Guests at the Yes Bank Golf Foundation Invitational Prize Distribution Ceremony at Le Meridien and soon after posing for a Group Photo with the young golfers, Kapoor said, “It is indeed heartening to see the work of the Foundation produce such excellent results.” 

He then asked for a special picture with young age-group World Champion, Shubham Jaglan.

It was heart-warming to see the two film stars crouch in the front row as the bunch of youngsters took the back row for a special picture session. “These kids are the future of Indian sport and let’s give them a big hand,” said Shroff.

Kapoor then added, “I will come every year as long as you want me and I promise to get Aamir Khan’s support also.”

As many as 102 leading corporate golfers from Delhi, NCR and elsewhere in India turned up for the Yes Bank Golf Foundation Golf Invitational presented by DLF and ILFS and organized by Digraj Inc. 

The first-of-its-kind charity event played on an Individual Stableford format (players were scored on 2/3rd of their Original Handicaps) saw the likes of former Asian Games gold medallist Amit Luthra, one of the founders of the Golf Foundation, designer Nikhil Mehra, former Australian Test cricketer Dean Jones, who is now a commentator, and former India hockey captain, Zafar Iqbal.

At hand to advise and give tips to the amateur players in an innovative manner with were the likes of former Asian Tour pro, Amandeep Johl, former PGTI topper and multiple winner, Ashok Kumar, former LPGA player Smriti Mehra and young prodigy Shubham, who played one hole with each of the groups.

The Board Members of the Golf Foundation were thrilled at Kapoor and Shroff agreeing to become Brand Ambassadors. Amit Luthra, who was at the forefront of the event on behalf of the Foundation, said, “The coming on board of film idols like Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff and the possibility of Aamir Khan supporting it, is indeed such a big boost for the Golf Foundation. We have already been supporting the likes of Ashok Kumar, Rashid Khan, S Chikkarangappa and Shubham and we hope to bring to the fore more such young talent.”

At the Gala Dinner, golf clubs donated by India’s premier golfer, Jeev Milkha Singh, books signed by his father and legend, Milkha Singh and a host of paintings and designer jewellery were auctioned to raise further money for the Golf Foundation.

At the tournament, keeping the golfers pepped up were a variety of gimmick prizes for RAYMOND Best Gross Score Hole, YES BANK Second shot closest to Pin, GSPOT straightest drive, SATYA PAUL closest to the square, best chip, SAVOY SUITES furthest from the green, YES BANK straightest Drive, YO CHINA Hit the Noodle and CROWNE PLAZA closest to the Pin.
