An idea is born

From being an idea yet to take off in 1990 to being featured in Aamir Khan’s ‘Satyamev Jayate’ in 2014, The Golf Foundation has come a long way.

Amit Luthra – Asian Games Gold Medalist, Arjuna Award winner and multiple times India champion – came up with the idea when his caddie challenged him to a friendly putting match. Even though the caddie didn’t win, Amit was impressed with his talent and more so, spirit of competitiveness. And when the caddie was falsely accused of stealing a meager Rs. 50, Amit decided to help him by getting him a job at the Delhi Golf Club, getting him golf equipment and permission to play. The boy’s name was Ashok Kumar, who went on to win 25 Amateur and 11 Professional titles and was the #1 ranked PGTI Rolex Order of Merit Golfer for years 2003-04 & 2006-07.

Producing champions

The hard work has paid off. Just a few of the young champions making waves on the Indian and international circuits are Rashid Khan, Chikkarangappa, Honey Baisoya, Manu Gandas and Harinder Gupta.

The Foundation’s newest kid off the block is Shubham Jaglan. From a modest background in Israna, Haryana, and all of 9 years of age, Shubham has been the world champion in his age category in 2013. Shubham also holds the world record of shooting 9 under (in 9 holes) at the Classic Junior Open in 2012. With The Golf Foundation’s support, Shubham has won over 120 Indian and international golf tournaments and is well on the way to achieving glory at the highest levels of golf in the future.

The Inaugural YES BANK-Golf Foundation Invitational Golf Championship

Earlier in 2014, The Golf Foundation organized its flagship fund-raising event – the Inaugural YES BANK-Golf Foundation Invitational Golf Championship. The event was a huge success. It was sponsored by leading corporate brands and top film stars Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff attended the glittering event at Le Meridien, New Delhi, as the Foundation’s brand ambassadors.

Look forward to the next events

Considering the success of the inaugural event, the Foundation has decided to make this an annual, multi-location event. The next editions are November 16, 2014 at the ITC Classic Golf Resort, Gurgaon and December 5, 2014 at the Willingdon Golf Club, Mumbai. These will be followed by gala dinners and prize distribution ceremonies at the Le Meridien, Delhi and Grand Central, Lower Parel, Mumbai, respectively.

The events are being sponsored by YES BANK, Auramah Valley, Take Solutions, ITC Classic Golf Resort, Le Meridien, USI, Dion Solutions, Centara Hotels, Holtec, Frazer & Haws, Havells, Raymonds, SRF, Sterling Tools Limited, Ballentines, Coca Cola, Indian Terrain, Tirun, Twenty-Four Seven convenience stores, CNN-IBN, Ashish Soni, Yo China, Dimsum Bros, Golf Digest India,, Shantanu & Nikhil, EXL, Thai Airways, JK Seeds, Select Group, Sandhar, Scottish High, Hamoni,Orthonova hospitals, Crowne Plaza, Satya Paul,Spark Advertising, Meena Bazaar, Amazing Thailand, Honma, Digraj Golf Inc.

Aamir Khan supports the cause

Adding to the attraction is the fact that Aamir Khan – one of India’s most popular and loved icons – is supporting the cause for the upcoming events in Delhi and Mumbai. The Golf Foundation was recently featured on the current season of ‘Satyamev Jayate’.

Step Forward. And help make a difference

The Golf Foundation, being a charitable organization, depends solely on donations. All donations get Section 80G benefits under the Income Tax Act, and the Foundation also has FCRA clearance.

Most importantly, all donations to the Golf Foundation are covered under the new rule which states that companies now have to earmark 2% of net profits mandatorily towards Corporate Social Responsibility.

Looking back at the sterling efforts of The Golf Foundation over the past years, it would certainly seem that the future of Indian golf is bright and is in safe hands.
