Lost Ball, Found Ball: 12th Hole Score?

Hello, fellow golf enthusiasts,

I recently encountered a puzzling situation on the 12th hole during a round of golf, and I'm eager to hear your thoughts on how to score it correctly.

Here's what happened: On the par-3 12th hole, Tyson hit his ball, believing it had flown over the flag and possibly rolled off the back of the green, putting him in danger of losing it. Sensibly, he then played a provisional ball onto the green, landing it 25 feet from the hole. Tyson proceeded to search for his original ball but couldn't locate it within the allotted 3 minutes. Consequently, he hit his provisional ball onto the green from a distance of 3 feet and tapped it in for what he believed was his score.

Here's the twist: When Tyson went to retrieve the ball from the hole, he found not only his provisional ball but also his original one.

Now, the question arises: What should Tyson score for the hole?

Should he count his provisional ball, which he played after he thought he'd lost his original, or should he take into account the fact that he ultimately found his original ball and played it in?

I'm curious to hear your interpretations of the rules and any similar experiences you've had on the course. Let's discuss!

It's Hole in One. The provisional doesn't count as soon as the first ball was holed.
