The 100th PGA Championship at the Bellerive Country Club set new records for India. When Shubhankar and Anirban teed off on Thursday, they took the count of Indian major appearances to 50. That’s incredible.
On Day 1, it was a solid one-under 69 round for India’s Shubhankar Sharma in the PGA Championship - his first-ever sub-par round for him in a major. He is tied at the 33rd spot.
Shubhankar Sharma is taking his level a notch higher in every game
He admitted that he left behind a few shots on the golf course in his opening round 69, but was overall delighted with the way he played.
India's Anirban Lahiri battled to an even-par 71 to be tied at the 48th spot after the second day.
Gary never finished inside the top 10 at a major
Gary Woodland holed five birdies on the back nine to surge into the first-round lead of the US PGA Championship. The American, who has never finished inside the top 10 at a major, carded a six-under 64 at Bellerive, Missouri.
Rickie Fowler began his latest bid to win a first major with a five-under 65, one clear of South Africa's Brandon Stone and fellow American Zach Johnson.
England's Ian Poulter and Justin Rose, plus world number one Dustin Johnson, are in a large group on three under.
The 2018 PGA Championship is apparently under digital attack. With the PGA of America hosting this year's event at Bellerive before heading over to Paris for the 2018 Ryder Cup, hackers have illegally broken into and grabbed various files that affect both events, according to a report from Golfweek.
Shadowy bandits have hijacked the PGA of America's computer servers, locking officials out of crucial files related to this week's PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club and the upcoming Ryder Cup in France. The staff realized Tuesday morning that their systems had been compromised when attempts to work on the files generated an ominous message: "Your network has been penetrated. All files on each host in the network have been encrypted with a strong algorithm."
Rickie Fowler pays tribute to the late Lyle by wearing yellow
Fowler paid tribute to Lyle by ditching the shirt he was slated to wear for a bright yellow-ish one that he dug out of his suitcase the night before. It was an extra that he wasn’t even supposed to wear this week at Bellerive, but he wanted to do so in honour of his friend, who frequently wore yellow in competition. It went well with the Leuk the Duck pin attached to Fowler’s black and yellow Puma hat.
