Khalin Joshi: Meet the young Indian turk of Golf

The international golfing landscape witnessed several spectacular talents coming through the ranks in the past few years. And India is one the countries to rule the roost when it comes to identifying and nurturing the new talent pool of prospective golfers.

 

Meet 25-year-old Khalin Joshi, the latest sensation in India's golfing domain. Khalin Joshi, who looking for his maiden title at the recently held TAKE Solutions Masters, did well but fell short by two shots at the end. However, his cheque of $33,000 catapulted him from the 84th to 38th position on the order of merit.

  • Khalin Joshi is a Gujarati by origin, but his family has made Bengaluru their home
  • Khalin started learning golf at the age of 4 from his Uncle. Khalin trains at the iconic Karnataka Golf Association course in Bengaluru.
  • Khalin Joshi turned professional in 2013, scoring five top ten finishes on the PGTI Tour to underscore his potential.
  • The best result of Khalin’s young career came at the Banshundhara Bangladesh Open in 2015, where he tied for second.
  • The biggest strength of Khalin’s game is a steady hand around the greens. He has been known to be a rhythm player, a detail that explains his battle with inconsistency in some part.
  • Khalin finished the 2016 season placed fourth on the Rolex Order of Merit rankings from the PGTI Tour. He was 91st on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, certainly well below his true class as a golfer.
  • Khalin enjoyed two top ten finishes on the Asian Tour – Manila Southwoods Championship (T13) and Shinhan Donghae Open (T 15).
  • Khalin Joshi also won once on the PGTI Tour in 2016 – the PGTI Players Championship.
  • Interestingly, Khalin finished inside the top ten in all but one of his elevent starts on the 2016 PGTI season. He was 12th in the PGTI Eagleburg Masters in September.
