Champions are made but prodigies are born. That explains why some sports prodigies defy dictums, set new trends and change the way we see sports altogether. Meet Mysuru’s 15-year-old Pranavi S Urs, who’s inciting a lot of ‘awws’ and accolades with her incredible feat.
The talented golfer, who has represented India in the junior and ladies’ amateur levels, has been offered a $100,000 golf scholarship at the Albany Academy in the Bahamas for an eleven-month period.
Mitchell Spearman Academy reviewed her performance and areas of strength and on the basis of her perfect tournament record and steadfast improvement and awarded her the scholarship from November 2018.
Pranavi earned selection to the Indian team finishing second in the National trials held at Delhi in February last year. She also performed well in the 2017 Hero women’s Indian Open, finishing as the best performing amateur. Pranavi, an eighth standard student, Mysuru, has surely made everyone notice with her Golfing performances. Within a short time after taking up Golf at the age of 8, she showed a natural flair for the game. What makes Pranavi stand apart is that she has the ability to deliver under pressure and yet maintain her calm demeanour.
Motivated by her parents Sharath Chandra Raj Urs and Kaiyalya Sharath Urs, she won a zonal sub-junior tournament when she was 8 and hasn’t looked back since.
When 4moles.com contacted her father Sharath Chandra Raj Urs for a brief interaction, he enthused, “Pranavi has definitely made all of us proud. Parental sacrifice cannot be explained. You have to go through it once to know exactly as to what sacrifice is all about. But makes the journey of parents is so special is when we look back and see how she progressed over the last few years. As long as she is performing and improving her game we are more than happy to support. End of the day it all depends on the player.”
Earlier in July 2018, the talented young gun kept her nerve and carded a fine even-par 72 final round to win the ninth leg of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour, at Eagleton Golf Resort.
When Pranavi is not Golfing, she loves listening to music, relishes swimming and enjoys meeting people and talking. With a ‘never-say-die’ attitude, Pranavi is irrefutably one of the brightest stars who’s working hard to reach the summit in the days to come.
