Now, this is an interesting update! Golf pundits have always said that the game instils self-discipline, upright manners and an important set of values within.
And it seems China’s schools are totally abiding by this dictum. That explains why Golf is being made compulsory in China’s schools.
Interestingly, the sport was earlier banned in China partially as the Communist leaders branded Golf as a game of the elite that endorses corruption and excess.
The first to make Golf lessons in schools mandatory was a school in Shanghai, who provided Golf to youngsters as it believed it was an imperative social skill that would help in building an international society in future.
It would be interesting to note that China has some of the top-notch Golf courses in the world and has been churning out a talented bunch of young Golfers every year.
The rising profile of Chinese players and growing access to driving ranges and courses have helped develop an interest in the sport among more affluent families from urban areas.
Local governments are also encouraging the building of clubs to give a fillip in tourism and increase development opportunities. While China has taken a major stride in inculcating discipline among children through Golf, do you think India should follow suit?
