Golfers certainly know how to garner headlines and this news bears testimony to the fact. If reports are to be believed, about 100 golfers reportedly teed off on the Beacon Rock Golf Course, in North Bonneville, despite wildfires devastating nearby hills.

Owners of the course and golfers captured the roaring fires in a series of dramatic photographs, which went viral as they were shared across social media by the owners of the course.

The pictures went viral after the owners of the course posted them on Facebook

The photographers were forced to deny accusations the photos were fake, but one golfer has since confirmed they are real. He told Oregon Live: “They were definitely not faked."

“When we first started there was a fire maybe the size of a grocery store. By the end of hole two, it was just crazy.”

Tamara Mayfield, one of the owners of the course, said there are about 100 people playing on Monday, with many choosing to stay to grab pictures and finish playing. Ash was reportedly falling from the sky as golfers casually concentrated on their putting.

The Eagle Creek fires, seen in the pictures, ravaged hills in Washington State on Monday.

The Beacon Rock Golf Course first posted a series of photos on Twitter alongside the caption: “Our golfers are committed to finishing the round.”

Mark Mayfield, Beacon Rock's operations manager, told CNN the golfers’ clear lack of concern was largely down to the fact the Columbia River separates the course from the hills.

He said the fire was “a mile and a half away", despite appearing dangerously close in the photographs. Wildfires are ravaging areas across the western coast of America, with officials saying the season in one of the worst in Washington State's history.
