It’s a victory for Thailand. Hosts Thailand defeated Japan 15-13 to win the inaugural Friendship Cup Sunday at Amata Spring Country Club in Chonburi.
Thailand entered the last round of the mixed team competition with a 10-6 lead but failed to convert several chances to clinch the title during final day singles.
Japan recovered and fought back to within a point of forcing a playoff after teenager Nasa Hataoka upset women's world number one Ariya Jutanugarn to cut the Thai lead to 14-13. But Kiradech Aphibarnrat finished out Satoshi Kodaira 1 Up in the final singles match of the day to win the Friendship Cup for Thailand 15-13.
Boonchu Rueangkit and Virada Nirapatthaphongporn Two Thai captains said after the team won the championship.
