Strange things have been happening in Golf this year. The ongoing 2019 New Golf Rules debate is refusing to die down and has gained more momentum. Some of Golf's most prominent pundits are explicitly voicing out their opinions and dissatisfaction about New Rules of Golf on public platforms.
Justin Thomas went on a Twitter rant recently
PGA Tour players have been complaining about the new rules put in place by the USGA and R&A all season. They’ve made comments on social media and to the press in the media room. The latest to join the bandwagon is none other than Justin Thomas.
Thomas went on a rant on Twitter Saturday after earlier in the day Adam Schenk was assessed a 2-stroke penalty for violating the new caddie alignment rule in the Honda Classic’s third round on Friday.
On Saturday, Thomas retweeted the USGA’s statement in which the penalty was announced, adding the hashtag, “#growthegame.” Thomas went on to answer questions from his followers about the new Rules of Golf implemented in January 2019.
With the recent Rules controversies hitting an all-time high, is the game of Golf on the verge of a Rules crisis?
Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan has been playing the role of a peacemaker who sent a memo that said “We believe the game is best served when all of the industry partners in the game are working together, and we intend to continue to approach this issue in that manner,” the memo read.
Golf pundits feel that it’s time to grow the game of Golf together and that too productively and not creating a trending topic on Twitter.
