Thailand’s young talent Varanyu Rattanaphaibulkij took the Golfing world by storm when he showed spunk and fired 10 stunning birdies at the Asian Development the two-million-baht event co-sanctioned by the Asian Development Tour (ADT) event and the All Thailand Golf Tour.

The 21-year-old Varanyu Rattanaphaibulkij signed a blazing eight-under-par 62 to grab the opening round lead at the Singha Laguna Phuket Open yesterday.

Varanyu birdied six of his first seven holes before dropping a shot on hole nine when he missed a two-footer for par. He recovered soon after with birdies on 10, 11, 14 and 17 but conceded another shot on 18.

“I am very happy with my round today; it is my lowest round in a professional tournament! I was hitting everything well today and making a lot of putts. I knew I was playing well but I wasn't thinking about the score," said Varanyu, who only totalled 25 putts.”

Meanwhile, Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat let slip a fast start to settle for a one-under 71 in the first round of THE PLAYERS Championship on Thursday.

The big-hitting Thai hit two birdies and an eagle during his opening seven holes at THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass before finding trouble on the tricky greens which left him frustrated and five shots off the lead. “I got off to a good start, four under through seven holes and then I missed a lot of putts. Missed a par putt on 18 and then a birdie putt on the first and then par putts on the third and fourth holes which were inside of seven feet,” said Kiradech.
