The 82nd edition of the Masters, that promises a lot of action on the golfing turf, is all set to descend upon us on this coming Thursday. There’s an unmissable zing in the air as the event will witness a galaxy of Golfing legends making their strong presence felt. With the Masters quickly approaching and a lot of new talent emerging, we bring you the list of players to watch out for in the upcoming event.
All eyes would be set on India’s latest Golf phenomenon Shubhankar Sharma, who is the lone Indian to make his major debut at the Masters. In the last four months, he created a stir by clinching two international tournaments. He stormed into the finals of the World Golf Championship, something no Indian had ever achieved before. These performances catapulted his world ranking from 462 in December 2017 to 69 at present, making him the youngest player in the world top-100.
He rose like the proverbial phoenix from the ashes. The four-time champion returns to Augusta as the American bookmaker’s favourite even though he has not played a Major for the last two years – and underwent his fourth back surgery last April.
I’m just there to win,” Woods said in a posting on his website this week. “I’ve been better with each week I’ve competed. A little crisper. I’m starting to put the pieces together.”
Woods missed his third Masters in four years last year after spinal fusion surgery but has contended in his past two starts, sharing fifth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and second at the Valspar Championship.
He is undeniably one of the favourites at the forthcoming Masters. The 28-year-old needs to acquire the Green Jacket to complete the career grand slam, having already won the Open, the US Open and the US PGA Championship. The player hasn’t won a major since 2014 and winning the Masters surely is on his agenda.
Justin Thomas has been riding the crest of success, amassing seven trophies over the past 18 months, including the 2017 PGA Championship. Thomas won the Honda Classic in a playoff against Luke List before losing one to Mickelson in WGC Mexico. He might destroy other’s chances of winning the event as he is a major force to reckon with.
Jordan Spieth stated loud and clear that he has arrived by winning the Masters in 2015. He won a lot of hearts by clinching the Open Championship last year and this gave a big boost indeed to his career. Irrefutably, his emergence as a top-ranking Golfer makes him a serious contender for another Green Jacket.
