Florida: American Golfer, Justin Thomas creates leeway to his victory by edging Lee Westwood on the greens of TPC, Sawgrass. He wins The Players’ Championship 2021 by one stroke over Westwood, thereby marking his 14th PGA Tour victory and the first Players’ title.
Justin Thomas lifts the title at The Players' Championship
Thomas becomes the fourth player since 1960 to win 14 times on the PGA Tour before turning 28. With his momentous victory at this tournament, he becomes the third player to withe Players’ Championship in this short link era (since 2003) despite hitting a ball into the water on No.17
Lee Westwood who was leading the tournament during the first three rounds dropped down to tying 2nd position. He made a birdie on No.18 to post an even-par 72 and finish solo-second and becomes the first player to post solo second-place. Furthermore, he Posts his sixth top-10 in 15 starts at THE PLAYERS; previously, his best finish was T4 in 2010 when he was also the 54-hole leader.
"When you are in contention you would like to win every tournament you play in," said Westwood, whose 72 on Sunday was the only time he failed to break par all week. "I didn't quite have my game - on Saturday I felt like my legs were just getting a bit tired and weak, [on Sunday] I didn't feel like I had my legs under me. I was hitting shots I don't usually hit.
To conclude, Thomas marked his head-to-head victory, while he was in heavy contention with some of the best golfers like Bryson DeChambeau, Lee Westwood, and Brian Harman at the players’ Championship 2021. Also, In one of his interviews, he mentions how supportive his family has been.
"It's been a long year, but they (my family) are always so supportive of me," said Thomas. "When you are in a tough place mentally or don't feel as great, to have a support system like that is huge." Thomas Quoted.
