Indian amateur star, Avani Prashanth has recorded a historic win by securing the top position in the 43rd Queen Sirikit Cup Golf Tournament. With Prashanth’s amazing performance at the tournament, team India finished best-ever in second in this prestigious tournament for the Asia Pacific Region at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in the Philippines on Friday.

Avani Prashanth

She scripted history by winning this tournament as she became the first indian golfer to win Queen Sirikrit Cup. This is the first time that an Indian golfer has won the prestigious regional amateur championship since it was held back in 1979.

Team India stood as a runner's up behind South Korea where Indian female golfers showcased their best performance.

Fiona Xu from New Zealand

Prashanth is currenntly ranked at 97th in the world amateur golf rankings, who shot a record-breaking 16-under 272 (68-66-70-68), extra-ordinarily 10 shots ahead of the second place holder Fiona Xu from New Zealand, who got a score of six-under 282.

Avani Prashanth hit four birdies in the back nine on the fourth day for a strong finish.

"It feels good to win my maiden international title," Avani told media "Actually, the icing on the cake was the number of shots I won by. That definitely makes it that much more special."

Local Filipino star, Rianne Mikhaela Malixi 283 (68-73-68-74) and Korea’s Hyunjo Yoo 283 (70-71-71-71) were tied third at five-under.

In the team event, Avani Prashanth’s team-mates Vidhatri Urs 297 (74-77-72-74) finished Tied 19th while Nishna Patel 303 (80-78-74-75) ended T30.
