KASUGAI, JAPAN | OCTOBER 3, 2026: Indian golf has a new landmark moment.

Pranavi Urs from Mysuru has become the first Indian woman to win an individual gold medal in golf at the Asian Games.
And she did it the hard way. Starting the final round at Kasugai Country Club East Course with a three-shot advantage, Pranavi appeared firmly in control of the competition. Then came the third hole.
A triple bogey on the par-four third erased her entire lead and suddenly turned a seemingly comfortable final round into a fight for survival.
Pranavi did not blink.
She responded with birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes, rebuilt her advantage and held her nerve through the closing stretch. With Singapore’s Shannon Tan and China’s Yin Ruoning pushing her all the way, Pranavi reached the 18th holding a one-shot lead.
A precise recovery and two putts later, history was hers.
Pranavi carded an even-par 70 in the final round to finish at 15-under 265, one stroke ahead of both Yin Ruoning and Shannon Tan, who finished tied on 14-under.
The gold is India’s first individual golf gold at the Asian Games since Shiv Kapur’s triumph in 2002. More significantly, Pranavi has become the first Indian woman to stand on top of the individual golf podium at the continental Games.
From Mysuru to the top of Asia, it is a landmark achievement for one of Indian golf’s rising stars.
Born in Mysuru, Karnataka, on April 15, 2003, Pranavi was introduced to golf at the age of six after watching her father and brother play at the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club in Mysuru. Her journey through junior and amateur golf saw her win the 2018 Singha World Junior Championship in Thailand and the All India Junior Girls Championship before turning professional in 2020.
Today, the golfer from Mysuru has added the biggest title of her career.
But Pranavi’s golden moment was only half of an extraordinary day for Indian women’s golf.
Alongside Pranavi, Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar delivered India’s first-ever medal in the women’s team golf event at the Asian Games.
The Indian trio finished with a combined score of 14-under 546, securing silver behind China, who finished at 22-under 538. The two best scores from the three-member Indian team counted towards the team total.
Aditi Ashok, who had won individual silver at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, produced a superb final round of 67, featuring five consecutive birdies despite a double bogey and a bogey. She finished tied 14th individually at 2-over 282.
Diksha Dagar carded 77 in the final round and finished tied 23rd at 12-over. Together, the three women delivered a double breakthrough for Indian golf.
Pranavi’s individual gold marked the first time an Indian woman has won the top prize in Asian Games golf.
The team silver marked the first time India’s women have won a medal in the team golf event.
It also represents a significant chapter in the evolution of Indian women’s golf.
Three years ago, Aditi Ashok had come agonisingly close to winning India’s first women’s golf gold at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, entering the final round with a commanding lead before finishing with silver.
In Aichi-Nagoya, Pranavi faced a similar moment of pressure, but this time India’s golfer refused to let the opportunity slip.
A triple bogey threatened to change the story. Three birdies changed it back. One final par sealed it.
Pranavi Urs is now an Asian Games champion.
And Indian women’s golf leaves Kasugai with two medals, a historic gold, a historic silver and a new chapter written into the record books.
For a sport that has been steadily expanding its footprint across India, October 3, 2026, will be remembered as the day Indian women’s golf broke through on Asia’s biggest sporting stage.
The first Indian woman to win Asian Games golf gold.
The first Indian women’s team to win an Asian Games golf medal.
One golden day for Indian golf.
