Moriya Jutanugarn learned that the Evian Championship would conclude on her 25th birthday after the tournament moved to July from September of 2018.
“It’s always going to be something because my birthday is in July. It’s always going to be some kind of major. Last year I think I was in Scottish, and year before I was in British. I’m kind of really used to it. I’m used to golfing in the rain on my birthday.” Her birthday tournament week treated her well. She finished T16 at the Ricoh British Women’s Open in 2017, and T35 at the Aberdeen Scottish Open.
This week took the cake of her past three birthday tournament weeks, as she finished at (-10) and T6. It’s her third top 10 at the Evian Championship of her career. She held the 36-hole lead at the shortened 54-hole edition of the tournament in 2017, and finished T10 in 2014.
She led the field in greens in regulation this week, yet Moriya doesn’t credit the course for her success. “I think I fell in love with Evian somehow, and here. It doesn’t mean the golf course fit me or anything, to come here is feel good.”
Jutanugarn looks forward to more time In Evian as the tournament celebrates its 25th year of existence. “It seems to be really nice, and hopefully it gets better and better each year.”
For the immediate future, Jutanugarn was scrambling to catch her flight to the final major of the year, apologizing as she scampered off into the caddy master area to hunt down her luggage. Jutanugarn tees it up for the sixth time in her career next week.
