Anirban Lahiri finishes the final round with a marvelous 36- foot putt for birdie and added two more on front nine, but bogeys on second and ninth ensured a 46th place finish at Farmers Insurance Open. However, he did close with a birdie for 2-under 70.

Lahiri, who was tied on 62nd for the first three rounds, improved his position, but it was a tiny consolation for the Indian, who was hoping for a strong start to the year. Meanwhile, Lahiri, who was playing in his eighth event of the season, shot 71-70-72-70 (5-under 283) to finish tied-46th.

Aaron Rai, a 26-year-old Englishman of Indian origin, with two European titles to his name, shot 67-68-68-72 (13-under 273) to finish in a tie for 6th, at the US$ 8.4mn Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, San Diego in California. Rai was two strokes out of the playoff between Will Zalatoris and Luke List, which List won with a birdie on the first extra hole.

Rai is a two-time European Tour winner and a three-time European Challenge Tour winner. He received a check for US$ 265,020 (about 2 crores) for his efforts. After reaching the Korn Ferry Tour finals at the end of 2021, he is playing his first full season on the PGA Tour.

Sahith Theegala, another Indian-origin golfer from California, who was formerly the American Collegiate Player of the Year, shot 67-68-73-71 (9-under 279) to finish tied-25th. Theegala’s tour-leading streak of 314 holes without a three-putt came to an end in the third round.

Luke List who is the winner of the tournament, had to hang around nearly two hours to learn his fate after he finished his final round at the Farmers Insurance Open, but the wait was well worth it. After posting a 66 on Torrey Pines, South Course. List’s 15-under total was enough to force a playoff with Will Zalatoris and thanks to a dazzling wedge on the first playoff hole — from the fairway on the par-5 18th that set up a tap-in birdie — Luke List leaves San Diego a first-time PGA Tour winner.
