Merits and Demerits of Competitive spirit in sports -

Being competitive is rarely being portrayed as a personality attribute that is negatively impacting our mind and  body. Being competitive helps us in chasing our dreams and in becoming our true selves. Whether it's sports or a job/career, we all wish to win. It is in human nature to win, which in return gives great pleasure. Craving to win or to continuously be the best is a very strong motive whether we know it consciously or not.

But the world of competitive spirit in sports also has a negative side, monitored, competitive sports can harm athletes physiologically, socially and physically. If not monitored, the drive to win can soon change to a win-at-all-costs mentality that can lead to attitude problems. The attitude that you must win can encourage cheating and difficulty getting along with others on and off the field.

Athletes or players should have a competitive spirit in them or not. What are your views on this?
