Yuvraj Singh Sandhu has achieved a significant milestone by securing his 2024 Asian Tour playing rights after finishing 8th on the 2023 Asian Development Tour (ADT) rankings. The golfer, a six-time winner on the PGTI with five victories in 2022, displayed skillful play at the US$250,000 Aramco Invitational at Rolling Hills GC in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Sandhu's rounds of 70-72-70-67 earned him a total of US$ 3887, contributing to his 8th position on the ADT Order of Merit with overall earnings of US$ 35,145 (₹29.2 lacs).
Strategic Focus Pays Off: Sandhu Clinches Asian Tour Card in Saudi Arabia
In a recent opportunity at the European Tour qualifier's final stage, Sandhu received an exemption, courtesy of the PGTI, European Tour, and PGA Tour partnership. Despite posting rounds of 73-74-73-71, he fell short of the 72-hole cut, where only the top 25 and ties secure European Tour eligibility.
Notably, Khalin Joshi performed well in Saudi Arabia, registering a tied-18th finish at 8-under 280 with rounds of 73-71-66-70, while Saptak Talwar secured a tied-22nd position with scores of 71-73-68-69, totaling 7-under 281.
On the other hand, Manu Gandas, the 2022 PGTI Order of Merit's top-ranked player, transitioned to the European Tour but faced challenges without achieving notable success. Gandas, unfortunately, will not be eligible for the 2024 European Tour. It remains unclear whether he will have playing rights on the Asian Tour, potentially leading him back to the PGTI in 2024.
In contrast, Sandhu strategically focused on the Asian Development Tour, participating in five events, securing victory in one, and claiming 3rd place in another. His dedicated efforts culminated in earning the coveted Asian Tour card during the final event in Saudi Arabia.
