Delhi Golf Club 31st March 2023

The tournament witnessed serious and yet fun and competitive golf. Participants included dignitaries, golfers and sponsors who support the efforts of the Golf Foundation to develop champions from India, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds who are passionate, highly dedicated and have a dream of making it big in golf on National and International platforms.

The tournament was played as a ‘Two Man Team Scramble’, a format which encourages aggressive and bold golf and also requires some strategizing between the two partners. The pair of Sandy Kashyap and Devesh Tripathi combined extremely well to shoot a team total of Net 57 (15 under) to take home the laurels this year. Regular podium finishers Sanjay Date and Dhiraj Jha again brought their A-game forward when they shot a combined team total of Net 59 (13 under). The pair of Raman Sohi and Siddharth Sangwan finished a close third with a Net 60 (12 under).

The event saw some special talent on display from the Golf Foundation which included kids from the Jandali village who showcased their golf skills by competing with a ‘Saria’ and Harsh Singh, who despite having a speech and hearing impairment has made it to the Order of Merit (ranked 3rd ) in the Junior Feeder Tour in Category B.

The tournament was followed by a Prize Distribution which was graced by Guests of Honour Mr. Kapil Dev, Padma Shri Devendra Jhajharia and Miss India Supranational 2022, Ms. Pragnya Ayyagari. It also had an innovative event during which Golf Foundation protege Savdeep Kadian had a face-off (chip by Savdeep Vs Javelin throw by Devendra to a target) with Guest of Honour, Paralympian Devendra Jhajharia.

Speaking about the initiative and the event, Founder-President of The Golf Foundation, Asian Games Gold Medallist and Arjuna Awardee Amit Luthra said, “We were humbled on being conferred the prestigious Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar, the highest award for sports promotion in India, by the Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind. This was thanks to the efforts of all the people who have supported the Foundation – both directly and indirectly – over the years. And I am grateful to all the sponsors and the Delhi Golf Club for their continued support”.

The success of the 12th edition of The Golf Foundation Invitational Fund Raiser can be gauged from the fact that it raised a record collection of rs1.70 Crores.

The Golf Foundation Fund Raiser tournaments are held every year in Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru to garner support for a cause which is helping produce Golf Champions from India on a consistent basis, especially players from underprivileged and marginalised backgrounds. The Golf Foundation has also been working on a series of nationwide talent search events and has identified beneficiaries who will be provided a holistic training programme.
