Led the Indian golf team that won the country’s first Asian Games gold medal back in 1982.
What inspired me to take golf: "My dad was in the Indian air force and 95% of the air force, army and
naval bases have golf courses. Since my brother and me were quite mischievous
as kids, our father thought of getting us involved in sports. We used to tag
along with him and that's how I was introduced to the game."
Interesting snippets: "I
was playing with Thai golf icon Thongchai Jaidee in Thailand in the Asian Games
back in 1982. There was a ruling problem where after almost an hour of debate,
my ruling finally prevailed over the referee’s decision. For me to overcome the
top referee’s decision was indeed a great achievement. And a similar situation
happened in the Asia pacific Amateurs where I challenged the referee’s ruling
and I succeeded. It gave me a lot of confidence to move head and I was happy
that my Chartered Accountancy knowledge, my argumentative instinct and logical
reasoning ability came handy. So, no matter how small you are, if you’re armed
with the right kind of knowledge in whatever field you are, you can make a
difference.”
My fave golf ‘totka’: "Whenever I step onto the greens, I ensure that I
put my right foot forward. I think it works for me
sometimes."
One thing I would like to change about Golf: "I would make the Golf holes a bit bigger so that it’s
not frustrating for the average golfers to play."
Fave golf destination: "I love Pebble Beach golf courses in California where you can tee off amidst breathtaking views. And yes, it’s very well maintained."
