The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has given approval for the inaugural Mid-Amateur Tour of India (MATI), a structured tour for amateur golfers, set to take place from October onwards. The MATI will be conducted under the supervision of the IGU, the governing body of golf in India.

The tour aims to provide a platform for serious golfers in the age group of 35-54 years who strive to strike a balance between their professional lives and competing on the golf course.

It also offers an opportunity for those who have been limited to club events due to a lack of opportunities in this segment. The MATI will consist of 11 events across the North and South Zones of India, culminating in the Tour Championship.

Notably, all events will carry World Amateur Golf Ranking points, making it appealing for participants seeking to accumulate points and potentially participate in prestigious mid-amateur tournaments abroad.

The initiative has received positive responses from both the director of Golfinghub Media and Events Private Limited, the promoting company behind MATI, and the Director General of the IGU. The Tour will be managed by Bitsport Pvt. Ltd., a renowned sports media and events company.

The venues for the North Zone events include Chandigarh, Panchkula, and the NCR Region, while the South Zone events will take place in Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
