A two-time European Tour maestro, Shubhankar Sharma has been recommended to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the highest sporting honour in the country by the Indian Golf Union.

The sports governing body, Indian Golf Union keeping in mind the laurels bagged by Shubhankar Sharma nominated him for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. It is considered to be the highest sport honour for the Republic of India.

Along with Sharma, Diksha Dagar, Udayan Mane and Rashid Khan have been recommended for the Arjuna award by the national body.

On a condition of anonymity, an official from IGU told PTI, “We sent the letter to ministry a couple of weeks back, recommending Udayan Mane, Rashid Khan and Diksha Dagar for the Arjuna award and Shubhankar Sharma for the Khel Ratna.”

The golden boy Sharma has been the youngest winner for the European Tour from India with the Joburg Open title and Maybank Championship in the consecutive years 2017-18.

He was also the first Indian to bag the European Tour’s Rookie of the Year Award in 2018 along with being a 22-year-old back then, he won the Asian Tour Order of Merit too.

Representing the country and playing five majors namely, the Masters, US Open, the Open Championship (twice) and the PGA Tour Championship, Sharma has been the torchbearer for India’s identity in golf hence making him be what we believe as the right candidate for the felicitation of the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.

But what’s more important is what you believe, hence, share your views here.
