For those who thought the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel appeared dim for Indian Golf, here’s some good news.
Indian pro Golfers Shiv Kapur and SSP Chawrasia kicked off their International Series England Campaign in a blazing way as both carded matching four-under 67s to share the second place two strokes behind leader Chang Wei-lun of Chinese Taipei at the end of first round, in Newcastle (UK), late on Thursday.
Bengaluru boy Viraj Madappa was the next best Indian who proved his mettle by securing 8th position at three-under 68.
“I have been playing well; the last event in Korea I was in contention until the last few holes on Sunday. I have been feeling good about my game, it is coming around,” said Madappa, who made four birdies in a row from the 10th.
He added: “I actually went to see my coach, who I had not seen for a year because of the pandemic. My coach is Laurence Brotheridge – he works out of Leeds. I flew out for the Mixed events in Thailand in April from Leeds where he is based. He was able to come down yesterday as well. I have been working with him for two years. We have mainly been working on set up. I feel if you get the set up right there is nothing much more you need.”
