Asian Games IGU Controversy: Should India send its best professionals to earn medals or give amateurs a chance to bring glory?

The Indian Golf Union, the governing body of the sports of Golf in India, finds itself swamped with yet another controversy.  IGU has come up with an idiosyncratic selection criteria for the upcoming Asian Games at Hangzhou in China which will be held in September. For the first time ever in the history of Indian Golf, amateurs are wrestling it out with professionals to stake a claim to represent India at the most coveted Asian Games.

By inviting 20 Professionals and 17 amateurs for the mega event, The IGU is drawing a lot of ire over selection trials timings and format. Unfortunately, some of the shortlisted contenders were forced to skip the trials due to lousy scheduling.

A debate has raged within the Indian Golfing community whether it is right to send amateurs or not. Some Golf pundits think it is entirely unreasonable to think of sending amateurs when most countries will be fielding their best pros. Some experts are of the view that sending deserving amateurs can bring the country more laurels.

What do you think?
