Fake golf sets !

image
Posted by Dinesh Thakur 24 Dec 2012

I just heard from a golfing friend that there is someone setting new titleist AP2 iron sets for Rs.21000 ... I just checked with the company and the distributor on India .... this is just not possible and are surely fakes being imported from China or somewhere...

Happy golfing!

Thank you Ashok Bhai .... Working really hard at it... :-) ... But not easy as the concept is new and even courses like NGC took a year to launch the PAY-PLAY section...

Be patient. That day will come definitely when we too will have such income from golf tourism. 4moles is making lot of efforts in that direction, and pretty fast. 3 cheers Danny boy.

Hi Rohit ... We dont event have a manufacturing unit for Golf gloves/ balls.. which are the fastest moving items. With not more than 100K playing golfers ... it does not make sense, until the unit is used for exporting in other regions of south asia.... Plus, countries like Thailand the govt. policies are far more focused and clear on golf as in industry. Thailand alone makes Rs. 3000 cr a year from golf tourism... ;-) ....

I agree with Dinesh ... Dinesh is there any plan by a major manufacturer to set up unit in India? Or is there one already... Bcoz if all is imported right now, then they are also most probably made in China... :) In case of genuine sets, profits are shared between China and Original equiment manufacturer while in case of fake, everything goes to China! :)

Look for Sl. No. On the shaft near the head of the iron club no. EIGHT of the set. This no. Is unique and can perhaps be checked on the respective websites. Just a tip, no clear cut confirmation of a genuine set guys.

I dont know how to identify a fake ... but let me asure you that fakes into india is not good for golf. The game is very young in India and most brands have yet to come into this country. This will only happen once the market becomes atleast half a million playing golfers. By buy fakes (even if they work)... is only going to help china, because we in india do not have any manufacturing units. All I can request is try and buy from known distributors of the brands. If safing money is the only interest, lookout for schemes. You can get an irons set for all low as 20K.

I have seen the set one buy from china, they look like original and not bad to play. Nevertheless may not be a bad option for one who is a beginner, one who does not want to shell out more yet like to have cute looking clubs in the bag. Besides, perhaps increase in more fake in market will enhance the chance to reduce prices by the reputed brand makers.

I was in China for 3 years working and I know for sure that these fake sets can be bought as low as 5 to 10K Indian Rupees... Also, there is fake fake and real fake! :) Real fake are little more expensive and look closer to real ones... nevertheless they both are fake!
