Mobile Golf GPS Vs Range Finder

image
Posted by Dinesh Thakur 06 Mar 2011
I have been using both the technologies on the Golf Courses in India for the past 1 month. The GPS mapped courses Vs a Range Finder. Interestingly the look and feel of a GPS mapped course is great, but the advantage of both the services is different.

The GPS Data shows you the layout of a Hole, plus also gives the approx yardage to the green. Please note, the data is not to the pin. However, with a Range finder, the advantage is in the approach shot on to the green. Therefore, helping you a lot on a PAR 3. It gives you a dead on lock to the flag from a distance of about 300 yards.

GPS maps help the golfers where they are playing a course for the 1st time. Where as a range finder is more valuable for a 15 and below handicap golfer.

Happy Golfing!

My recommendation would be the BUSHNELL range finders ... the US army uses the same company.... unfortunately no one in India is importing them due to very low demand... (I may be wrong) ... unless someone else has more information... cheers

I have seen a few range finders which have not been of much use. Probably those were some low quality models. Can some one suggest a quality range finder and from where is it available.

Its already available .... about 10 courses are already MAPPED. however, you need to subscribe to a service provider who has these courses mapped. check www.mobitee.com
