The allocation of Rs 1.74 crores to the Indian golf team from the Rs 470 crores Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) budget has raised questions about the fairness of the funding distribution. This amount constitutes a mere 0.37% of the total budget, which seems disproportionately low considering the growing interest and participation in golf within India. While sports like athletics, wrestling, and badminton have traditionally received more funding due to their higher medal prospects and popularity, this small allocation for golf suggests that it is not currently viewed as a priority sport by the funding authorities.
However, the potential for growth and success in golf should not be underestimated. Indian golfers have shown promise in international competitions, indicating that with better financial support, they could perform well on the Olympic stage. Increased funding could help develop necessary infrastructure, provide better training facilities, and offer more opportunities for international exposure, all of which are crucial for enhancing the performance of Indian golfers.
In light of this, there is a strong argument for re-evaluating the funding distribution to ensure that emerging sports like golf receive adequate support. Share your thoughts, opinion, criticism, drop you expression in comment !
