The Players Championship 2023 - Final

Previous World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler won the prestigious $25M The Players Championship 2023 at TPC Sawgrass in Florida. Playing a total of 17-under (68,69,65,69) . He started his final round with two par hits and then went for a bogey hit on the 3rd. The back nine made him hit 3 birdie hits on 10th, 11th, 12th and then again a bogey hit on 14th. He parred the last three holes on the final day of the tournament. He took home the prize money of  $4,500,000.

Now because of winning this tournament, he has been moved up on the position of World No.1 leaving behind Jon Rahm.

Scottie as the winner of this event will get 600 FedEx Cup points, as this is considered a standard event on the PGA Tour schedule. Additionally, there are 80 Official World Golf Ranking points on the line for the winner.

 

 

Tyrrell Hatton

 

 

Standing at the solo second position English player Tyrrell Hatton was way behind the leader with 5 strokes behind him. He got 12-under (72, 71, 68, 65). The front went almost parred for him except on the 8th and 9th where he got a birdie and a bogey shot respectively. The back nine proved him better than the front nine, where most of his shots were birdie putt including one on 10th, 12th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th. All his continuous birdie hits made him stand as a runner up on the leaderboard. He was awarded a prize money of $2,725,000. 

 

Tied-3 was another star player Victor Hovland who was seven shots behind the leader(-10) with a total score of 278 (69, 71, 70, 68). In his final round he got 6 birdies and 3 bogeys on 3rd and 5th. Along with him Tied Tom Hoge scoring (78, 68, 62, 70). They got a prize money of $1,725,000

 

Standing on solo 5th position, Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama played 9-under (74, 70, 67, 68) who was one stroke behind his successor Hoge. He had a disappointing double bogey on the 14th and birdied 7 holes in the final round of the tournament. $1,025,000 was the prize money won by him.

Alex Smalley made an outstanding hole-in-one on the 17th on the final day of the tournament. After hitting a double bogey on the previous 16th hole , and then jumping straight to hole-in-one on the next was a highlight. Although he Tied-65 after the final round. 

 

 

There were some star players who couldn’t make it to the top -10 in the Players Championship 2023 including famous Rory McIlroy who missed the cut and opportunity of winning the dynamic prize money. 

 

Rickie Fowler tied-13 with playing 7-under, Jordan Speith Tied-19 playing 6-under, Tommy Fleetwood tied-27 playing 5-under. Currently world no. 1 Jon Rahm withdrew his name when he got injured after finifhsing his first round in Florida. 

 

While this event offers a significant payday, a win comes with the benefits that come with winning on the PGA Tour. Winners of these events get a five-plus season exemption on the PGA Tour, three-year entries into the majors, and entry into the 2024 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
