As much as we want this not to happen, for various reasons the game of Golf has been awash with myriad controversies throughout history. We take a peek at some of the hottest controversies that rocked the Golf world this year.

Sergio Garcia temper issues

It seems like ages ago when Sergio Garcia was on top of the world after finally breaking through and winning his first major championship at the Masters in 2017. That alone made it a banner year.

Two years later, 2019 was one to forget for Garcia. In February, Garcia was disqualified from the Saudi International because of "serious misconduct." He was accused by other competitors of purposefully hitting his clubs into the surface of the greens, causing damage. But it wasn't just once; it was reportedly five times.

That wasn't the first mishap of the week for Garcia, though. A day before, after hitting a bunker shot on to the green, Garcia took some frustrating swipes at the sand and then uttered an expletive-laden tirade in Spanish.

When Matt Kuchar landed in a soup

Matt Kuchar good guy” reputation has been steadily eroded over the last 12 months.

First, there was the furore over the paltry sum he paid his local caddie following his Mayakoba Classic win last year. Now, he’s in the firing line again, this time for appearing to improve his lie whilst moving loose impediments in a waste area during the second round of the Porsche European Open at Green Eagle Golf Course.

Bryson’s slow play pace was under the scanner

Bryson DeChambeau’s pace, or lack thereof, has been picked on before. During the controversy, it was blitzkrieged.

Videos circulated on social media of DeChambeau taking longer than a Yankees-Red Sox game over a chip shot and putt, with an indignant Justin Thomas in the background serving as a proxy for fan frustration.
